Iain and Linda brought their cousins from the UK to
paddle the St Johns River with us this morning. One celebrating her birthday was
the Princess of the day! A flock of Wild Turkeys flew across the river one at a
time coming very close to us. In the springs a large Manatee was spotted
resting on the bottom. Long-nosed Gar, a living fossil, one of the North
America’s oldest were just under our kayaks and we could see them through the
clear waters of the spring run. A few Gators were sunning in the Water Lettuce
along with several Turtles. In the swamps there were 2 Pileated Woodpeckers
playing hide and seek with each other while the White Ibis, Anhingas, Little and
Great Blue Herons, Green Herons and Great Egrets all came out to greet us as
well. It was a great day to be on the river and a good time was had by all!
